My first step into game design: Boomber Rouge III

No, that’s not a typo and there aren’t two other games. Naming the game wasn’t a high priority for us.

Boomber Rouge III is the result of my time taking CSCE 4210: Game Programming 1 at UNT. With a team of two other students, we managed to get a working game together in one semester. I was responsible for:

  • Enemy/Boss AI
  • Sprite hit boxes
  • Sprite Animations
  • Item Mechanics
    • Health up, Max health up
    • Max bombs up, explosion radius up, etc
  • Game Audio

The game was built on a custom game engine provided to us by Dr. Ian Parberry and is heavily inspired by the Roguelike genre and Konami’s Bomberman. Rooms and enemies are pseudo-randomly generated to keep give each play through of the game unique.

A copy of the game is available upon request. Feel free to contact me.
